Blues/The Twilight Sloan
2Disc CDR 2008
Vocalist and harmonica player "Alaska Slim"
has been at it since the '60s, releasing 25 recordings in that span. He has
toured with John Lee Hooker, Bo Diddley, Jimmy Rogers and many others, who's
influences best describe his music. Bruce Iglaur of Alligator Records describes
his playing as "a cross between Musselwhite and Butterfield without
sounding like either one." Disc 1 features more traditional acoustic and
electric blues while disc 2 adds a horn section and stretches the boundaries
with several live selections. Recording locations vary from Kansas City and
Serbia to Alaska. His regular Kansas City Rhythm Revue is augmented by several
long time Alaskan musicians and special guests Harvey Mandel and Lazy Lester.
