Blues on My Side - CD 1995
“What’s that “East
Coast” sound?
Take some swinging
jump blues, mix it in with a bit of thundering rock n’ roll, throw on
some smoky Chicago blues, and top it off with a huge dose of gusto and
passion –that’s what Johnny and the East Coast Rockers are about.
Against a backdrop of
such diverse musical stylists as hard rockers, jazz elitists, bluegrass
pickers and country boys as well as the boisterous, burgeoning southern
New England blues scene, Johnny’s potent musical brew stands out even
more boldly.
Self-taught, self
propelled, Johnny played guitar in grade school. His uncle gave him a
Sears & Roebuck guitar and amplifier, a single lesson, and by age 10, he
was playing for his whole school.
Johnny’s love of the
blues emerged after just a few years on the club circuit. Since 1980,
he’s played only the blues, driven by all the energy and passion of a
true believer.
Electric guitar forms
the backbone of Johnny’s music, but his expressive Dobro slide and
sweetly moaning harmonica also play an integral part.
Johnny’s vocals
capture the mood of any tune, ranging from a whiskey-roughened blues
howl to the sensual, growling caress of a lover.
That he plays
strictly by ear lends his music a raw reality that digs deep into your
inner soul.
Take a listen to
“Blues On My Side”. Then listen to it again. Whatever the tune, whether
it’s bebop, swing or killer blues, you have to agree: Johnny’s love of
music, of singing and songwriting, is the real thing. It comes from the
heart.”
